Wildebeest migration is a live annually event that happens from June to October when the wildebeest cross Mara River to Maasai Mara from Serengeti National park and vise versa. Above are some of our great migration safari packages. Just like in Serengeti, the wildebeest migration in Masai Mara in also an awesome experience. As travelers’ follow the migration, you will be able to see Africa’s big cats hunting. You won’t likely miss to see lions, leopards, cheetahs and hyenas among the rest. Witnessing the great wildebeest migration will depend in where tourists are visiting and what time of the year as the animals tend to move in an anticlockwise direction from Serengeti to Masai Mara. In September, the animals cross back to Serengeti national park, if you’re lucky you can still see the last herds crossing in early August. The river crossings are best slotted in July and August. Serengeti national park is relatively big. The best time to witness the great wildebeests migration in its southern sector is in February and March. The best time to visit the park’s northern sector is in July and September when these mammals are crossing.

The predators or carnivores see the killing of over 30,000 zebras and 250,000 wildebeests every year. This is caused by hunger, exhaustion or thirst. There are over 3000 lions that follow zebras, gazelles and wildebeests for prey every year. The Masai Mara derives its name from the local nomadic Masai inhabitants. Masai Mara game reserve is about 240 kilometers from Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. Serengeti national park can be accessed from Arusha international airport in Arusha town of Tanzania. The rainy seasons may change from year to year but where the rain is, the wildebeests are not very far. The herds are endlessly one of Africa’s natural epic occurrences. Where to sleep while on a dramatic journey for the wildebeests migration safaris will depend on the location of the animals and the country you are in (Kenya or Tanzania). Both accommodation units are comfortable ranging from luxurious, mid range, budget and camping.

Some of the lodges to stay in while in Serengeti National Park are; Olakira camp, Serengeti under canvas, Serengeti migration camp, Serengeti safari camp and many more. In Masai Mara you can lodge in Rukero camp, Governors Il Moran camp, Salas camp and Bateleur Cano among the rest.
