Uganda Chimpanzee Trekking ,Uganda known as “The pearl of Africa” is famous with primate trekking in Africa, with more than half of the world’s habituated chimpanzees on their natural habitats, the country is gifted by nature with a wide range of vegetation variations from open savannas to green rain forests harboring not only primates but also 1000’s of bird species, mammals, butterflies, indigenous plants and others.
Uganda Chimpanzee trekking is currently done in three main destinations in Uganda those are Budongo Forest in Murchison falls national park, Kyambura Gorge and Kalunzo in Queen Elizabeth National park and finally the primate capital of the world Kibale Forest National park. Kibale Forest national park the only place in East Africa one can do Chimpanzee habituation where one treks the Chimpanzees for the whole day (12 hours) you will have chance to learn much about the different characteristics of Chimpanzees make films and others. The park has more than ten species of primates.
Uganda has over 5,000 habituated Chimpanzees open to tourists to trek, of recent Uganda wildlife Authority opened up Chimpanzee Habituation Experience in Kibale forest where one can track Chimps for 12 hours. CHEX can also be done in Murchison falls in Budongo Forest though not yet in full gear as they are doing more research on it. Chimps are the second main attractions in Uganda after Gorillas and they are regulated with rules if someone has to trek the chimps must be above 15 years of age with no air transmitted infections like flue and others. Uganda Chimpanzee trekking is done in two phases those are morning session and afternoon sessions in all the trekking destinations in Uganda though in Kibale they do it three times a day.
The activity starts with briefing from the headquarters of the park where the tourists are briefed on guidelines of trekking then after enter to the forest with the escort of the game ranger who will be your guide. These rangers have knowledge not only to the chimpanzees but to almost everything in the forest you will be free to ask any question of your interest like butterflies, dragon flies, monkeys, plants and others.
