Tourists can experience this trail on bikes or on foot for up to ten days, with the option of even one day hiking. One of the reasons people visit Rwanda is to see the Rwandan genocide sites of 1994, which saw the killing of over 800,000 Rwandans. You can visit Rwanda and learn more about the genocide from its dark tourism spots.
When to go on Rwanda tours
Rwanda, being proximate to the equator at a high altitude, has a moderate climate. The country can be visited all year round, though there are distinctive seasons that are better for doing some activities. October and November is the time of short rains in Rwanda.
The rain falls, but the sun always comes out to dry the soil after, and the skies clear to reveal the country’s scenic beauty. It’s the best time for sightseeing lovers and photographers to visit the country. This period is also the best time to do bird watching. With the trees, plants, and flowers, bird life is abundant, with the presence of migratory birds.
Mid-May to mid-October is the best time for trekking the mountain gorillas. The weather is clear, the hiking trails are in good condition, and the roads leading to the national parks are also dry and not muddy. This is the longest dry season of no or little rain.
March to mid-May is Rwanda’s longest rain season. The hiking and walking trails are not good. Tourists will need Four Wheel Drive cars to access most national parks. For chimpanzee trekking, it’s a perfect time as the fruits ripen and chimpanzees move and can easily be seen under trees picking falling fruits.
December to February is the busiest time of the year. Tourists are advised to book the gorilla trekking permits in this peak season in advance to avoid missing out on the experience
