Rwanda is made up of two tribes: the Tutsi and the Hutu. The best time for visiting Rwanda is during the dry season when the grass is short, and wildlife can easily be spotted. The trails on the Virunga ranges are also not slippery, hence easy gorilla trekking.

Accommodation in Rwanda will depend on the tourist’s budget. Sectors range from luxurious hotels, mid-range, budget, and camping, but most provide comfortable rooms and hospitable services. It is easier to connect your Rwanda Safaris with Tanzania safari packages or Uganda safari packages because of the distance. We offer very affordable holidays in Tanzania.

Why go to Rwanda?

The main tourist attraction in Rwanda is the endangered mountain gorillas that can be found in Volcanoes National Park. The park is home to 10 gorilla groups that can be trekked. Observation time of mountain gorillas is strictly one hour from the time you spot them. Gorilla permits in Rwanda go for $1500. The famous Nyungwe canopy walk is one of the irresistible activities to do on safaris to Rwanda.

The walkway is over 50 meters from the ground and provides outstanding views compared to many other canopy walks. Experience life on top of huge African trees and simply feel the cool breeze of the forest canopy while exploring Nyungwe Forest from a bird’s eye view.

One of the reasons you should also visit Rwanda is game watching. Many people only crave gorilla trekking but not game viewing. Akagera National Park is the best place for game viewing safaris in Rwanda, with animals like lions, elephants, forest Genet, and many more.

Akagera National Park is about 110 kilometers from Kigali. Apart from mountain gorilla trekking, tourists can also explore golden monkeys. These monkeys are known for their playful characters and can be seen in groups of about 30 in areas outside Volcanoes National Park.

Chimpanzee trekking in Rwanda can be done at Nyungwe Forest. You can also encounter many other primates like black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, blue monkeys, Syke monkeys, and many more.

The Congo Nile Trail covers 227 square kilometers of lush rainforests, scenic rolling hills, and beautiful, clear waters along Lake Kivu. Tourists can experience this trail on bikes or on foot for up to ten days, with the option of even one day hiking. One of the reasons people visit Rwanda is to see the Rwandan genocide sites of 1994, which saw the killing of over 800,000 Rwandans. You can visit Rwanda and learn more about the genocide from its dark tourism spots.

When to go on Rwanda tours

Rwanda, being proximate to the equator at a high altitude, has a moderate climate. The country can be visited all year round, though there are distinctive seasons that are better for doing some activities. October and November is the time of short rains in Rwanda.

The rain falls, but the sun always comes out to dry the soil after, and the skies clear to reveal the country’s scenic beauty. It’s the best time for sightseeing lovers and photographers to visit the country. This period is also the best time to do bird watching. With the trees, plants, and flowers, bird life is abundant, with the presence of migratory birds.

Mid-May to mid-October is the best time for trekking the mountain gorillas. The weather is clear, the hiking trails are in good condition, and the roads leading to the national parks are also dry and not muddy. This is the longest dry season of no or little rain.

March to mid-May is Rwanda’s longest rain season. The hiking and walking trails are not good. Tourists will need Four Wheel Drive cars to access most national parks. For chimpanzee trekking, it’s a perfect time as the fruits ripen and chimpanzees move and can easily be seen under trees picking falling fruits.

December to February is the busiest time of the year. Tourists are advised to book the gorilla trekking permits in this peak season in advance to avoid missing out on the experience
