Detailed itinerary of the safari
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
On the first day of the safari you will be picked from the lodge by a representative of Focus East Africa Tours who is also your safari driver, depending on your time of arrival you will go for a city tour visiting areas like Kigali genocide memorial city where you will learn about the horrific massive killing s of people in 1994 Kigali genocide, kimironko market for handmade crafts and many more. in the evening you will have dinner and stay over at the hotel in Kigali.

Day 2: transfer to Nyungwe forest national park
On the second day of the safari you will have morning breakfast and go for a visit to Royal palace museum in the western province and Ethnographic museum in the southern province where you will learn more about Rwanda. You will have lunch and then embark on your drive to Nyungwe forest national park which takes approximately 5 hours, you will get in the park in evening, check into your lodge and stay overnight.

Day 3: chimpanzee tracking experience and canopy walk in Nyungwe forests
On the third day of the safari you will wake up early and drive to the park for chimpanzee tracking experience after breakfast, you will have briefing at the park’s headquarters where rules and regulations to follow will be read to you by a guide. Then trek into the forests of Nyungwe in search for chimpanzees, the forests of Nyungwe hot 13 species of primates such as chimpanzees, olive baboon, black and white colobus monkeys, mangabeys, pottos and many more which you will encounter as you trek through the forests. When you find the chimpanzee you will have one hour to be in presence of the chimpanzees as you watch them play with each other, jump on tree branches and take amazing pictures. When one hour elapses you will trek back to the headquarters and drive back to the lodge for lunch, in the afternoon you will return to the park for a canopy walk with is done on a raised canopy above the trees, on your walk you will enjoy amazing views of the surrounding, spot various birds and some primates. in the evening you will return to the lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.
Day 4: colobus monkey tracking experience and visit Lake Kivu
On the fourth day of the safari you will wake up early in the morning and drive to the park for colobus monkey tracking, Nyungwe forest hosts the largest troop of black and white colobus monkey in Africa and in the park you will have a short briefing and exactly 8 am you will trek into the forests of Nyungwe. This experience takes approximately 2-5 hours and you are given one hour of being around these beautiful monkeys, after the experience you will drive back to lodge, have lunch then checkout and drive to Lake Kivu. Lake Kivu is a fresh water lake lieing on the border between Democratic republic of Congo and Rwanda, when you get at the lake you will enjoy magnificent views of the lake and participate in activities like Kayaking and swimming in the fresh waters of the lake. In the evening you will check into your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 5: transfer back to Kigali
on the last day of the safari you will have morning breakfast and then drive lake kivu for a boat ride, on the boat ride you will visit numerous islands in the lake such as Idjwi island, munini island also known as napoleon island, Goma island and many more. After the boat cruise you will visit the environmental Museum in Kibuye, this museum showcases renewable and no-renewable energy and also has an herbal medicine garden on the rooftop. From the museum you will have lunch at hotel, checkout and drive to back to Kigali, un Kigali you will be dropped either at your hotel or at the airport for your departure flight back home.
