4 days Nyungwe safari is a tour which will start in Kigali and you will enjoy a tour in Nyungwe forest national park. You will engage in chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest, a canopy walk, hiking along the Rukuzi trail and also visit the Gisakura tea estate. You will also enjoy visiting the King’s palace while in Butare during your 4 days Nyungwe safari.

After your 4 days Nyungwe tour, you will return to Kigali which will bring your safari to an end.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1; pick up and drive to Nyungwe for canopy walk

In the morning, you will be picked up by your guide from your hotel in Kigali as you prepare for a drive to Nyungwe forest national park. You will have a stop in Butare where you will visit the King’s palace and also have lunch enroute while on a Rwanda Safari.

After lunch, you will engage in a canopy walk along a wing bridge which is about 50 meters long suspended between trees and you will enjoy seeing the rainforest and also enjoy seeing wildlife species from a bird’s eye view. After this experience, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight at Nyungwe top hill view hotel.

Day 2; guided hiking at Rukuzi trail

You will have breakfast at your lodge in the morning and after breakfast you will embark on a guided hike along the Rukuzi trail. This trail takes about 5 hours to complete the full circuit and is one of the best hiking trails of Nyungwe national park.

The Rukuzi trail is used by tourists who engage in chimpanzee trekking in the national park. You may encounter chimpanzees during the hike along the Rukuzi trail and also enjoy views of Lake Kivu. After your hike you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight at Nyungwe top hill view hotel.

Day 3; Chimpanzee trek and visit Gisakura tea estate

You will have an early breakfast at your lodge ahead of a chimpanzee trekking activity in Nyungwe forest national park. You will be driven to the park headquarters in Uwinka for briefing about the activity.

The Nyungwe forest has about 80 habituated chimpanzees and as you enjoy your chimpanzee trekking you will also enjoy seeing other primates in the forest such as red tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys among others. After this chimpanzee trekking experience, you will have your lunch.

You will also enjoy visiting the Gisakura tea estate later in the day and get to learn about tea growing, harvesting, processing and packaging of the tea. You will also get a taste of the delicious tea and after the visit you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight at Nyungwe top hill view hotel.

Day 4; drive to Kigali

On the last day of your safari, you will have breakfast and check out of the lodge ahead of your drive to Kigali where your guide will drop you off at the airport or your hotel in Kigali which will bring your safari to an end.
