Detailed itinerary for the 5 Days Great Ape Safari
Day 1: land in Kigali and transfer to Congo through Gisenyi
On the first day of your safari you transfer from from Kigali to grande barrier in Goma, in your transfer you have to make sure you are at the border post by 9am.At the border you go to the park’s headquarters to get you mountain gorilla trekking permits, after picking the permits you transfer to your lodge for lunch. At the lodge your will rest after lunch as you prepare for tomorrow’s activity that is mountain gorilla trekking.

Day 2: mountain gorilla trekking experience
The second day of your safari, you start your day by early morning breakfast at your hotel then you be picked by your safari driver who will brief you about your safari then embark on your journey to virunga national park. Upon arrival in the park you will be briefed about the rules and regulations about the experience of mountain gorilla trekking. From the park’s headquarters you hike into the forest of virunga national park, the hike takes a duration of time which depends much on the area where they spent the previous night. Meeting the mountain gorillas is a wonderful exceptional feeling, in the presence of the gorillas you are allowed only one hour of interacting with them, and take pictures. After the experience you transfer back to the your hotel, have dinner and stay over night
Day 3: Second mountain gorilla trekking experience
The third of your safari is a second mountain gorilla trekking safari, like the previous mountain gorilla trekking experience on the second day of the safari you wake up early in the morning for morning break fast then transfer to the park. After briefing youhikeinto the forests in search for mountain gorillas and after finding them you stay one hour with them andthen head back to your lodge. Most the times the experience ends early in mid-day meaning you have time to either rest or visit Senkwekwe gorilla orphanage center, you are to have lunch at you lodge the visit senkwekwe gorilla orphanage center . in the center you will see orphaned mountain gorillas as they are being trained and taken care of by the center’s trained team.
Day 4: chimpanzee tracking experience
Be ready for this activity by 6:00am, you’ll set off and follow the trails through Mahura forest to areas where the chimps spent their night. After an hour of interaction with the primates, you’ll head back to the lodge, have breakfast and relax.
The fourth day of the safari is for chimpanzee tracking experience, on this day you wake up as early as 6:00 am and hike on the trails of mahura forest in search for chimpanzees, in search for the chimpanzees you will see many birds and beautiful green forests with a variety of tree species. After finding the chimpanzees you spend one hour with them including taking pictures as long as your flashlight is off, after the experience you head back to your lodge, have breakfast and rest for the day
Day 5: transfer back to Kigali
The fifth day is the last day of your safari, on this day you will have breakfast in the morning, check out ofyour lodge and head to Grande barrier in Gisenyi. From Gisenyi you transfer kigali international airport, on your journey you will have lunch in kigali and then have your drop off at the airport for your departure back to your home country.
