The Ngozi crater lake offers the beautiful breath-taking views from the top, it’s the paradise for the hikers. The lake Ngozi is the second largest crater lake in Africa, its located in Rungwe district in Mbeya. The caldera is 2.5 kilometers long and 1.6 kilometers long, the crater is flooded and inhabited by different fish species the local fisher men goes down the steep to catch fish. The main activity that one can take part in is hiking towards the rim of the crater, walk through the lush green forest that is covered by lots of bananas and massive bamboos. Along the way enjoy the view of the spectacular colorful birds as well as the colobus monkeys. It takes about 1 and half hours to reach to the top of this crater, hiking this crater has little difficulties at some point you will have to use your hands up the mountain due to elevation levels. Hike the mountain Rungwe
Mountain Rungwe is located on the southern part of Mbeya region and elevated about 2,981 meters above the sea level and it’s the second tallest mountain found in this part of the country, unlike the Kilimanjaro mountain that takes about 7 days to hike, the mountain Rungwe takes only 10 hours to hike both up and down the mountain. The mountain area is highly made by tropical natural forest, the path of the mountain most of the time are overgrown by the vegetation and it requires the guides who knows the trail so well to lead you all the way to the peak. How do you get to Mbeya?
The Mbeya city can be accessed by vehicle while in different part of Tanzania. From Dar es Salaam it can take up 15 hours of car drive and its not considered as the best way to get to Mbeya. Mbeya city can also be reached by the means of airport from the J.K Nyerere international airport. Mbeya can also be accessed by train and it takes up to 28 hours and 58 minutes to reach to Mbeya it’s takes the longest time and yet the cost of using the train is relatives very cheap, it’s about 19- 32 USD.
