The word Ngozi or Ngosi comes from Safwa tribe that is located around Mbeya region. The word Ngosi or Ligosi means large and spiritual connections with traditional beliefs. So, the Safwa believed that the existence of such a large body of water has spiritual connections with their local beliefs and people used to pray around the lake asking for rain whenever there were drought in their tribe. This is the reason why the place is highly respected and people pays respect of the highest order. This is mostly done by the natives or villagers around the place.
Lake Ngozi is located around Uporoto mountains, in the southern highlands of Tanzania specifically Mbeya region. Lake Ngozi existed due to the volcanic eruption that took place in the mountain and that is what makes it to look different from other lakes especially Lake Victoria and Lake Nyasa. The eruption seems to be erupted some many years ago.
The uniqueness of Lake Ngozi is just because it is located around mountains and in the forests. It has some of the very peculiar and distinct features that makes it unique and different from other popular lakes. It has the height of 2.5 kilometers, its width is about 1.5 kilometers. Its depth is about 74 meters long. Lake Ngozi also has the size of 9332 large. This is another impressive and attractive feature of the African like lake.
Lake Ngozi is quite different from other lakes just because it is located around the Uporoto Mountains and for tourists to be able to view it they must climb around the mountains. It is said to be the only lake that is located around mountains just because it was formed by the volcanic eruptions of the mountains around the lake. Uporoto Mountains is one of the oldest mountains in Tanzania mainland. It has been existed since time in memorial. It is said to be existing since 1937 and it was special for protecting and conserving water sources, plants and animal habitats. Uporoto Mountains is also one of the unique and different mountains in the country. This is just because is the only mountain that contain lake inside it and for anyone to be able to view lake Ngozi one must climb Uporoto mountain.
Lake Ngozi is one of the unique lakes in the world because it has no any water streams or rivers that flows their water to the lake or any river or water stream that takes water out from the lake. It is just like water in the bucket, bowl or jar. Other lakes like Lake Nyasa and Victoria have the popular rivers and water streams that takes their water to the lakes that makes it different from the lake we are speaking of, Lake Ngozi.
Another fascinating and wonderful facts about Lake Ngozi is that its water have no specific color. The color of water keeps changing from time to time and this makes difficultness to record the exactly color of water in the lake. There comes a time when the water in the lake is blue colored, greenish and black in color. This is quite different from other lakes whereby their colors are constant. They are mostly blue in nature. For instance Lake Tanganyika, Lake Nyasa, Lake Manyara, Lake Victoria just to mention few.
The presence of forests around Lake Ngozi keeps frequent changing in color of water all the time and in all seasons. This mostly occurs when the sun shines or during the day.
Despite the fact that the lake is so attractive when seeing it but it has never have any species of fish since time in memorial. There is no any scientific research or documentation that proves the presence of any fish species in the lake since its existence, The Uniqueness of Lake Ngozi.
The lake is also popular for producing hot water. It is also believed that the lake consists some hot water that can also be used in boiling of some meals like eggs. This is also one of the interesting things in the lake since there are very few water sources that can produce hot water. People around Mbeya region used to take water from the lake and use it for boiling some meals. The government of Tanzania has established some special projects around it including electricity production project.
People around the lake pays high respect to the lake just because they believe that the lake has great spiritual connections with traditional beliefs. Due to this, the area is more visited by international visitors than the domestic one. Also, students are one of the groups that are more attracted and convinced to visit Lake Ngozi. They are doing it just for funny, refreshment and enjoyment.
