General Tanzania Travel Regulations : Tanzania is located in east Africa on the coastal shores of the Indian Ocean. It is bordered by Kenya to the north, Mozambique to the south, and shares inland borders with Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia.

Christianity is the predominant religion in Tanzania accounting for over 61% of the population. Islam is also common accounting for over 35% of the population and almost 100% of the population in Zanzibar.

Tanzania lies to the south of the equator and on the whole, enjoys the tropical climate. Coastal areas are hot and humid and there are two distinct rainy seasons. The heaviest rains fall from March to May while shorter rainy seasons occur between October and December. The dry season brings cooler temperatures to the country and lasts from June to September.

In terms of weather, the best time to visit is the dry season. When temperatures are more pleasant and rains are rare. This is also the best time for viewing as animals are drawn to water holes by lack of water elsewhere.

AIRPORT

Tanzania has several airports such Julius Nyerere International airport in Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro International Airport in Arusha. These are the two main airports of entry for international visitors. Except for a handful of African countries, Tanzania has general traveling rules and regulations. The following are the regulations;

You must have a valid passport.

Make sure your passport is valid and you must have at least two blank pages in your passport for the visa stamp. Always check the passport requirements.

Most internationals entering Tanzania must have a visa.

The visa is required upon arrival in Tanzania. There are three ways in which you can do to get a visa.

  1. You can pay for the visa at your country’s embassy council
  2. You can apply for a visa once you arrive at the airport. You just go to the line waiting there and provide the necessary documents and you pay for the visa application. Finally, you will obtain approval right there.
  3. If you want to save all of the time that goes into obtaining a visa you can apply for an e-visa even before traveling. They are going to ask you to attach some documents like your passport information and so on. You will get your information submitted online and then after within 24 – 48 hours they are going to send you an email back with your approval. After all, just make sure you have your Pdf document saved on your phone or printed to show at the office upon arrival in Tanzania. They will use that visa to stamp your passport and you will be asked a few questions and then your fingerprint will be taken to approve you. From there you will be cleared to enter the beautiful country of Tanzania and start your adventure.

The visa payment per person is $ 50 for 30 day stay. For the Americas, it is $ 100. These paid costs for a visa vary depending on the country you are coming from.

You should have a flight ticket confirmation. Once you get your flight ticket you should check a boarding pass QR code. This one is very important.

  1. Before you arrive in Tanzania you are required to fill out a traveler’s health surveillance form online.

This form will have various information about you, and your trip. This might include questions like when are you entering Tanzania, your health status, your nationality, address, contact, and the place you will stay. It is mandatory to have this form with you. Don’t forget to come with the document because it is very important and they are very strict on this.

  • You must fill out the application for traveling through the government website or the embassy. 

If you are not sure about any information while filling out the form, don’t be late to call the embassy to ask. The form is available and you can fill it out before your travel to Tanzania

  • You are required to have a fit-to-fly certificate

In Tanzania, you have to do it 96 hours before arrival. It is called the PCR test. Whether you are vaccinated or not you have to present negative results of the PCR test before traveling to Tanzania. You have to make sure that before leaving the airport for Tanzania you do have the results of your test in hand. It is not possible to board an airplane or check without having your results. All the airports in Tanzania provide PCR tests 24 hours a. make sure before you head to the airport that you do have your results in hand. The piece of paper that has your negative PCR test should have your first name, last name, the date, and the result as negative. You will pay around 85 pounds and the cost depends from one provider to another.

  • You should lock your bags.

  • You should have been vaccinated for Hepatitis E, malaria, and Typhoid.

Zika virus is also a risk and as such pregnant women who are about to conceive should consult a doctor before planning a trip to Tanzania. Yellow fever vaccines is also a must, but only if you come from countries that suffer from this endemic disease as it is for Kenya you will be required to have been vaccinated for the yellow fever disease. People aged 50+ do not require any yellow fever document.

  • You must have health insurance. 

Tanzania is not going to cover the expenses and bills if you fall sick. So, the Health organization will consider you having health insurance. Make sure you do have your health insurance.
