Mount Muhabura

Mount Muhabura is situated between Rwanda and Ugandan boarderit’s also sometimes known as Muhavura, it’s stands 4,127 meters above sea level, this extinct volcano is the third highest of the famous virunga Volcanoes. It’s part of Mgahinga national park in Uganda and Volcanoes national park in Rwanda.

Mount Muhabura derives its name from a local Rufumbira word to mean “the guide” in Kinyarwanda it means “Sentinel”. The first resting point while hiking the mountain is at 3, 116 meters above sea level and the second resting point is at 3,855 meters above sea level and the final summit 4,127 meters above sea level. The mountain hike takes about 6-7 hours depending on the climber’s fitness.

Mount Muhabura offers spectacular views of the beautiful crater and the vast plains on the slopes where gorillas dwell in, Mount Muhabura is the steepest of the Volcano ranges and also the second highest in Rwanda. It’s in the east of the Virunga Mountains.
