6 days Nyiragongo and Congo gorillas safari is an experience which will start in Kigali, Rwanda where you will engage in a city tour. During the safari, you will also visit Virunga national park in Congo and engage in Nyiragongo hike.
You will also engage in gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park during your safari which will end in Kigali.
Day 1; arrival in Kigali
You will be met by your guide on arrival at Kigali international airport and you will be driven to your hotel for check in. Depending on your time of arrival, you will engage in a city tour around Kigali and visit Kimironko market and the genocide sites.
You will have dinner and overnight stay at Des Milles Collines hotel.
Day 2; drive to Virunga national park
On the 2nd day of your 6 days Nyiragongo and Congo gorillas safari, after having early breakfast at your hotel, you will be driven to Virunga national park and during the drive; you will enjoy views of the Rwandan country side. You will have a stop for lunch in Gisenyi and later cross to the Congo side of the border where you will proceed to your hotel in Virunga national park.
Day 3; Nyiragongo hike
You will have breakfast at your hotel and you will start your Nyiragongo hike from Kibati. You will have a briefing and start your hike on the mountain. You will enjoy hiking through valleys, escarpments and thick vegetation.
You will also enjoy views of the lava lake at the summit of Mount Nyiragongo and you will spend the night the Nyiragongo summit shelters on the mountain.
Day 4; descend Nyiragongo and drive to Gisenyi
After your breakfast, you will start your descent from Mount Nyiragongo to the assembling point where you will meet your guide. From this point, you will start your drive to Rwanda where you will check in at your hotel near Volcanoes national park for dinner and overnight stay at Le Bambou gorilla lodge.
Day 5; gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park
On the 5th day of your 6 days Nyiragongo and Congo gorillas safari, you will wake up early for breakfast ahead of your gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes national park. Your guide will drive you to the briefing point at the park headquarters and after a short briefing, you will continue into the natural habitat of the gorillas.
You will hike through different trails in search of the gorillas and when you find the gorillas, you will spend one hour with them and return to the starting point where your guide will be waiting for you. After your gorilla trek in Volcanoes national park, you will also have an optional cultural experience to interact with the locals and learn about the Kinyarwanda culture. After the cultural tour, your guide will drive you to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay at Le Bambou gorilla lodge.
Day 6; departure
On the last day of your safari, you will have breakfast ahead of your drive back to Kigali where you will have lunch and proceed to the airport for your departure flight which will bring the safari to an end.
