Zanzibar beaches

Zanzibar Beaches : Zanzibar is found on the Indian ocean and there are many beaches which are found in the different parts of the island such as in the north western part and in south eastern part of the island.

Swimming, snorkeling, diving among other water activities which are carried out during tours around Zanzibar. The different beaches where these activities are carried out include the following;

  1. Nungwi beach

Nungwi beach is located on the northern part of Zanzibar with one of largest villages on the islands.

Traditional dhows are built on Nungwi beach and village tours can also be carried out around the beach. Among the attractions which are found on the beach are the coral reefs.

This beach also has many restaurants and hotels serving fresh sea food. Nungwi beach also has very beautiful sunsets and also attracts many tourists for beach holidays.

  1. Kendwa beach

Kendwa beach is found on the north western coast of Zanzibar with white sand and turquoise waters.

Scuba diving, snorkeling and swimming are among the activities which are carried out around Kendwa beach with no low tides. Many restaurants, bars and hostels are also found along the beach.

  1. Pongwe beach

Pongwe beach is about 1 hours’ drive from Stone town on the southern end of the Zanzibar island.

The white sand beach also has towering palm trees which provide shade close to the clear blue waters on the island. A number of activities are carried out on Pongwe beach and they include snorkeling, swimming and sunbathing.

Activities such as visits to the stone town can also be carried out during tours to the Pongwe beach.  There are also reefs on the seaside where water based activities can be carried out.

  1. Jambiani beach

Jambiani beach is found on the south eastern coast of Zanzibar and is one of the remote places on the island.

The beach is made up of white sands and blue water and there are corals on the sea bed as well as coconut trees. Fewer tourists visit Jambiani beach which also has souvenir shops.

During a visit to Jambiani beach, tourists can also visit the local villages and interact with the locals and also enjoy the tasty foods in the village where different restaurants, bars and lounges are found.

  1. Mnemba beach

On the north eastern coast of Zanzibar is Mnemba beach which has a white sand beach.

Snorkeling and scuba diving are also carried out during tours on Mnemba beach. The activities are carried out a short boat trip from the island which also has coral reefs.

Green turtles also lay their eggs on island during the months of February and March. Different fish species are also found around Mnemba and they include barracuda, tuna, mackerel, sailfish and many others.

A variety of marine species can be seen on Mnemba island which is surrounded by coral reefs. There are also humpback whales, dolphins and many others which are found in the ocean.

  1. Paje beach

Paje beach is located on the eastern coast of Zanzibar island which also has turquoise waters and white sand beaches.

Kite surfing, diving and swimming are carried out at this beach which has a good depth for this activity and also a low tide which favors swimming. There are stones on the seabed at Paje beach which also has many restaurants, cafes, hotels.

Many tourists also visit Paje beach during their vacations on Zanzibar island which is always crowded. There are also kite schools on the beach which offer training on kite surfing.

There are also palm trees at Paje beach which is bordered by a village and also has reefs offshore where turtles, starfish, trumpet fish and many other marine creatures live.

  1. Michamwi beach

Michamwi beach is found on the southeastern part of Zanzibar and it has white sand and palm trees on the beach and blue waters.

Many tourists and honeymooners visit Michamwi beach during their tours to Zanzibar island. The beach is also a destination for activities such as swimming, snorkeling, kite surfing, kayaking, paddle barding, surfing as well as beach walks.

Guide tours are also carried out on Michamwi beach which also has tropical gardens, private beaches, pools and thatched bars. There are also many resorts along its coast.

  1. Kiwengwa beach

Kiwengwa beach is another beach which is found on the northeastern part of Zanzibar island.

This beach is a popular spot among tourists and a variety of activities can be carried out at Kiwengwa beach. Swimming is among the activities which tourists engage in during their tours to this beach which is shaded by palm trees and also has white sand.

Matemwe beach is also found in the northeastern part of Zanzibar and is the longest beach of Zanzibar.
