3 days lowland gorilla Congo safari is a short safari offering tourists a chance to visit Kahuzi Biega national park and meet the lowland gorillas which is a home to about 4,800 eastern lowland gorillas, Eastern lowland gorillas are immediate cousins to the Western lowland gorillas living in the forests of Central Africa. Eastern low land trekking experience is the highlight of this safari which begins from Kigali and cross over to Democratic republic of Congo using Cyangugu border , tourists enter Kigali (Rwanda) using Kigali international airport.

Detailed itinerary of the safari

Day 1: transfer from Kigali to Bukavu – Congo

On the first day of the safari you will be picked from Kigali international airport upon arrival by a safari driver from Focus East Africa Tours, you will set off for Rwanda using Cyangugu border and on your way you will enjoy the panoramic views of many rolling hills of Rwanda. When you arrive in Bukavu a tourist city of Democratic Republic of Congo you will head to Kahuzi Biega national park, check into your lodge/hotel, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2: low land gorilla trekking experience

On the second day of the safari you will wake up early in the morning, have breakfast and with your packed lunch you will head to the headquarters of Kahuzi Biega national park for registration and briefing. After registration you will be briefed about the rules and regulations to be followed as you track for low land mountain gorillas, at the headquarters you will also be assigned a gorilla group and then trek into the forests looking for the lowland gorillas. Once you find them you are allowed to be in their presence for one hour taking pictures and videos , you will then head back the park ‘s headquarters where you will be rewarded with trekking certificates. From the headquarters you will go for an optional visit to Kibati waterfalls, Mbayo tea estate or community visit to Buhavu town. In the evening you will return to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 3: transfer back to Kigali

On the third and last day of the safari you will wake up for breakfast, checkout of your lodge and set off for Kigali using Changungu border and along the way you will make a stop to visit kings palace in Nyanza. At the kings palace you will visit the king tomb and his wife’s, you will also visit Butare museum and when you arrive in Kigali you will be dropped off at the hotel or at the airport for your departure flight.
